‘Star Wars: Andor’ Disney+ Series Rumored To Release in August

One of the highly-anticipated Star Wars series confirmed to release on Disney+ this year is “Star Wars: Andor.”  “Andor” follows the adventures of Rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion five years prior to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.

Previously announced cast includes Diego Luna, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgard, Fiona Shaw, Kyle Soller and Robert Emms.  Forest Whitaker will also reportedly reprise his role as Saw Gerrera and Ben Mendelsohn is rumored to return as Orson Krennic.

Disney previously announced that “Andor” would premiere at some point during Q4, which would be this summer, with many expecting a September release.  However, according to The Direct, the series could potentially drop in August.  Yesterday, Disney announced that Ms. Marvel would release on Disney+ on June 8th which was earlier than expected, this could open the door for “Andor” to release earlier than expected also.   Season 1 of “Andor” will reportedly consist of 12 episodes, so an August launch would see new episodes drop into the late Fall.  Season 3 of The Mandalorian is expected to arrive on Disney+ sometime around Christmas this year which would make the timing plausible.  Season 2 of The Bad Batch is also expected to arrive on the streamer sometime this year.

Additionally, “Andor” Season 2 is set to begin production in the Fall which could mean Lucasfilm is eyeing an August release the following year for the second season.

Obviously, since nothing has been confirmed by Lucasfilm or Disney, we will treat this as a rumor for now.

Toby Haynes will direct the first three episodes of “Andor.”  Writers include Stephen Schiff and Tony Gilroy.

American composer Nicholas Britell has been tapped to score the upcoming “Andor” series.
