Earlier this week, it was reported that Damon Lindelof (Lost, Watchmen) and Justin Britt-Gibson (The Strain) had exited the Star Wars film they were working on. The duo signed on to write the project over a year ago.
Variety is now reporting that Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) is set to write the screenplay for the untitled Star Wars movie.
Plot details for the new film are being kept under wraps however it will be set after the events of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker. The film is not a continuation of the Skywalker Saga but could feature characters who were introduced in the sequel trilogy.
Oscar-winner and Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still attached to helm the project.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has been rumored to have been cast as one of the leads in the upcoming film, however, that has not been confirmed.
Lucasfilm is expected to reveal its plans for the future at Star Wars Celebration 2023 which takes place the weekend of April 7th in London. It’s possible more information about the movie, including a title could be revealed at this event. Lucasfilm’s Studios Showcase panel is scheduled for Friday, April 7, 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM British Summer time.
Knight’s credits include 2002’s Dirty Pretty Things, and 2007’s Eastern Promises. He also created and executive produced the BBC’s Peaky Blinders, which streams on Netflix in the US.
