The upcoming Star Wars Disney+ Original series “The Acolyte” was expected to release on the streamer in 2023 however according to a new report, the series may not launch until late 2024.
The news comes from Bespin Bulletin which reports, The Acolyte is slated to film from October into May of next year, with a 2024 release expected for the series.
“The Acolyte” has been described as a female-driven, action mystery thriller, with martial art elements that will take us into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging Dark Side powers in the final days of the High Republic Era. The series is said to take place in a different part of the Star Wars timeline than other projects.
Amandla Stenberg has been confirmed to star and Lee Jung-Jae (Squid Game) will star as the male lead. Additionally, Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim, Anne Boleyn) and Manny Jacinto (The Good Place) will star in the new Star Wars project. It was also recently reported that Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll) is in final negotiations to join the project.
Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) is serving as the series showrunner.
The series is expected to begin production in London later this month.
