‘The Acolyte’ Disney+ Series Reportedly Begins Filming

The upcoming Star Wars Disney+ Original series “The Acolyte” has reportedly already started filming.

The news comes from Bespin Bulletin which reports, “The Acolyte” began filming earlier this week at Shinfield Studios in Berkshire. Filming is expected to continue at the UK studio until May.

The article also reports that there is a large outdoor set located behind Shinfield Studios which looks to be a town or marketplace of some kind. Additionally onlookers have informed me that they saw multiple actors being ushered in and out of trailers including the series lead, Amandla Stenberg (Bodies Bodies Bodies).

“The Acolyte” has been described as a female-driven, action mystery thriller, with martial art elements that will take us into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging Dark Side powers in the final days of the High Republic Era.  The series is said to take place in a different part of the Star Wars timeline than other projects.

Amandla Stenberg has been confirmed to star and Lee Jung-Jae (Squid Game) will star as the male lead.  Additionally, Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim, Anne Boleyn) and Manny Jacinto (The Good Place) will star in the new Star Wars project.  It was also recently reported that Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll) is in final negotiations to join the project.

Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) is serving as the series showrunner.

The series is expected to release on Disney+ in 2024.
