‘The Acolyte’ Disney+ Series Reportedly In Pre-Production

According to Bespin Bulletin, the Star Wars Disney+ Original series “The Acolyte” is in pre-production in Reading, England. The outlet further reports that the series will film at the newly constructed, Shinfield Studios.

“The Acolyte” was originally scheduled to begin filming last May but was delayed. Filming will now reportedly begin in November with principal photography set to run until May 2023.

“The Acolyte” has been described as a female-driven, action mystery thriller, with martial art elements that will take us into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging Dark Side powers in the final days of the High Republic Era.  The series is said to take place in a different part of the Star Wars timeline than other projects.

Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) is serving as the show’s showrunner and directing the series, though it’s unknown if she will direct every episode.

Amandla Stenberg was rumored to be in talks for the lead role however nothing has been confirmed so far.

A Disney+ release date for “The Acolyte” has not been announced yet but it was previously believed to launch sometime in 2023.
