There’s plenty to look forward to in October but let’s take a step back and review some of the biggest announcements from Disney+ during the month of September.


“The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse” Animated Shorts Coming To Disney+

Mickey Mouse and friends are heading to Disney+ in the all new-animated shorts series, “The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse.” From the team behind Disney Channel’s Emmy Award-winning “Mickey Mouse” cartoon shorts, the new Disney+ original series will debut on Mickey’s birthday, Wednesday, November 18, with two new shorts rolling out every Friday beginning November 27. Ten shorts will premiere this year, with 10 additional shorts set for Summer 2021. Read more

Iman Vellani Cast as Ms. Marvel in New Disney+ Series

Newcomer Iman Vellani has been cast to play Ms. Marvel (a.k.a.  Kamala Khan) in a new series for Disney+.  She will also be making an appearance in other Marvel movies, including Captain Marvel 2. Read More

Disney+ Releases Trailer for ‘Marvel’s 616’

Disney+ shared the trailer for its upcoming original documentary series “Marvel’s 616,” streaming on the service November 20. The eight-episode anthology series gives viewers a deeper look into the creative world of Marvel. Read more


Disney+ GroupWatch Feature Now Live for US Subscribers

Disney+ has launched its GroupWatch feature to U.S. subscribers.  This new feature allows subscribers to invite up to six friends and family members (who all have their own Disney+ logins) to stream a TV show or movie simultaneously. Read more


Samuel L. Jackson to Play Nick Fury in New Marvel Series for Disney+

Variety is reporting that Samuel L. Jackson will be reprising his role as Nick Fury in a new Marvel series for Disney+. Read more


“The Simpsons” Season 31 UK Disney+ Release Date Announced

Disney has announced that season 31 of the longest-running scripted primetime show in television history, “The Simpsons”, will be coming to Disney+ in the UK and Ireland on Friday, November 6th, 2020. Read more


Marvel’s ‘Loki’ Resumes Filming in Atlanta

Marvel’s new “Loki” series for Disney+ has resumed filming in Atlanta, Georgia.  The news was revealed during a new interview with actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw with Forbes.com. Read more


Disney+ Now Streaming on Google Assistant Smart-Display Devices

Disney+ subscribers can now stream their favorite series and movies on Google Assistant-enabled smart displays like the Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max allowing them to launch content by using voice commands.  The service is available in 13 countries including U.S., Canada, the U.K., France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Austria, Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand. Google says it will roll out to additional regions over the next few months. Read more


Disney Wins 22 Emmy Awards, 7 Go to ‘The Mandalorian’

Disney+ earned eight trophies in the 72nd Emmy Awards, including seven Emmys for “The Mandalorian”, from Lucasfilm, and one for Pixar’s “Forky Asks a Question: What is Love.” This marks the most Emmy wins ever for a streaming service in its first year. Read more

‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’ Officially Confirmed for 2021

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier was initially supposed to be the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first Disney+ show.  The series was originally scheduled to debut in August 2020 followed by the new WandaVision series which would premiere in December 2020.  Then the pandemic hit, which forced filming to shutdown all over the world.  Studios then had to delay and reshuffle their release calendars in order to compensate.
