The ABC drama pilot, “The Company You Keep” is still in contention for a series order.

Deadline reports that the show has started a writers room in anticipation of a series order and has also brought on seasoned writer-producer Phil Klemmer as co-showrunner.

“The Company You Keep” is based on the Korean format “My Fellow Citizens.”  The story follows con man Charlie (Ventimiglia) and undercover CIA officer Emma (Kim). A night of passion leads to love between the pair, who unknowingly are on a collision course professionally. While Charlie ramps up the “family business” so he can get out for good, Emma’s closing in on the vengeful criminal who holds Charlie’s family debts in-hand — forcing them to reckon with the lies they’ve told so they can save themselves and their families from disastrous consequences.

Previously announced cast includes Milo Ventimiglia (This Is Us), Catherine Haena Kim (FBI), William Fichtner. Sarah Wayne Callies, James Saito, Tim Chiou, Freda Foh Shen and Felisha Terrell.

Ben Younger (Snowfall) has been tapped to direct and executive produce the series.  Younger directed the first two episodes of this season of Snowfall for FX and also directed the ninth episode of season 3.

The pilot is being written and exec produced by Julia Cohen. Executive producers include Cohen, Ventimiglia and Russ Cundiff on behalf of DiVide Pictures, Jon M. Chu and Caitlin Foito on behalf of Electric Somewhere, Todd Harthan and Lindsay Goffman. Deanna Harris of DiVide will produce.

20th Television is the studio, with DiVide currently under an overall.

If “The Company You Keep” receives a series order, we expect to see the show arrive on Hulu and internationally on Disney+.
