Earlier this week, it was reported that The Daniels will reportedly direct at least one episode of the upcoming Disney+ Original series “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.” Deadline has now confirmed that news.
The Daniels is comprised of the directing duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. The team each won 3 Oscars for Best Orginal Screenplay, Best Director and Best Picture for the film Everything Everywhere All At Once. Other credits include the Turn Down For What music video and the 2016 film Swiss Army Man.
Kwan revealed the news on his Instagram story and wrote, “we guest directed one episode. Jon Watts approached us to do an episode a while ago (before EEAAO even came out). We love Jon, love Star Wars, love learning new tech, we love meeting new cast and crew, and we needed the days to keep our healthcare (!!!) so it was an easy yes. We shot it last year and had an incredible time working with the most talented cast and crew and im excited for you all to see it.”
The series stars Jude law, is directed by Jon Watts, and comes from executive producers Jon Watts, Christopher Ford, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.
The show takes place during the post–’Return of the Jedi’ reconstruction that follows the fall of the Empire, the same as ‘The Mandalorian,’ but its plot remains a secret. Inside Lucasfilm, the show is being described as a galactic version of classic Amblin coming-of-age adventure films of the ’80s.
The synopsis is as follows: Skeleton Crew tells the story of four kids who find themselves lost in the vastness of the galaxy trying to find their way home.
A recent piece of information from The Hollywood Reporter says the budget for the series is around 136 million which is one of the highest costing series for the streaming service.
“Skeleton Crew” has wrapped filming and is expected to release on Disney+ in 2023.
