‘The Devil in the White City’ Production Start Reportedly Revealed

According to a new Production Weekly listing, Hulu’s adaptation of Erik Larson’s The Devil In The White City starring Keanu Reeves will begin filming in March 2023 in Chicago.

Hulu has ordered an eight episode limited series order for the drama.

The 2003 book tells the true story of two men, an architect and a serial killer, whose fates were forever linked by The Chicago World’s Fair of 1893. It follows Daniel H. Burnham, a brilliant and fastidious architect racing to make his mark on the world and Henry H. Holmes, a handsome and cunning doctor who fashioned his own pharmaceutical “Murder Castle” on fair grounds – a palace built to seduce, torture and mutilate young women. The story takes the viewer on a tour of murder, romance and mystery in the gilded age.

Currently, Reeves is the only actor announced to be attached to the project and will play Burnham.

In addition to starring, Reeves will also serve as an executive producer.

Hulu announced the project in 2019 as a big-budget series with DiCaprio and Scorsese exec producing alongside Rick Yorn, Emma Koskoff, Jennifer Davisson and Stacey Sher. Todd Field is set to direct the first two episodes of the limited series.

Castle Rock and Manhattan creator Sam Shaw is working on the adaptation.

It’s from ABC Signature in Association with Paramount Television Studios.

A release date has not been announced yet however Hulu is reportedly eyeing a 2024 launch.
