Disney has announced the Disney+ premiere date of the Star Original series “The Dropout” in Canada. The series will premiere on Thursday, March 3 which is the same day it will premiere on Disney+ in the United Kingdom and Ireland and on Hulu in the United States.
Amanda Seyfried and Naveen Andrews will star in the upcoming series about the rise and fall of Elizabeth Holmes and her company, Theranos. The limited series will also feature William H. Macy, Laurie Metcalf, Elizabeth Marvel, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Kate Burton, Stephen Fry, Michel Gill, Michael Ironside, Bill Irwin and Josh Pais. Additional recently announced cast members include Dylan Minnette, Alan Ruck, Bashir Salahuddin, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Hart Bochner, James Hiroyuki Liao, Nicky Endres, Camryn Mi-Young Kim, Andrew Leeds, Sam Waterston, Kurtwood Smith, and Anne Archer, LisaGay Hamilton (To Kill A Mockingbird), Michaela Watkins (Werewolves Within), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (NOS4A2), Kevin Sussman (The Big Bang Theory), Sam Straley (Hala) and Shaun J. Brown.
“The Dropout” is based on the ABC News/ABC Radio podcast. Holmes (Seyfried), the enigmatic Stanford dropout who founded medical testing start-up Theranos, was lauded as a Steve Jobs for the next tech generation. Once worth billions of dollars, the myth crumbled when it was revealed that none of the tech actually worked, putting thousands of people’s health in grave danger. Money. Romance. Tragedy. Deception. The series is executive produced by the podcast’s host/creator Rebecca Jarvis and producers Taylor Dunn and Victoria Thompson.
Michael Showalter is set to direct multiple episodes and will also serve as executive producer.
The series hails from Liz Meriwether, Searchlight Television and Disney Television Studios’ 20th Television.
