When Disney+ announced their release schedule for August, one series was noticeably missing from the line-up…The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. The new Marvel series was originally scheduled to launch on the streaming service in August, but seems it was delayed.
Back in March, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, halted filming in the Czech Republic due to coronavirus concerns. Anthony Mackie, who stars in the upcoming series, previously shared on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon that there was “very little left” to film for the show and online rumors indicated that filming would resume this summer.
Murphy’s Multiverse recently reported that they are fairly confident the show will resume filming next week in Georgia, September 8th to be exact. They are also reporting that production on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is still planned to return to the Czech Republic beginning in October and extending into November in hopes to return home before the holidays.
So, when will the series arrive on Disney+? There are a couple of scenarios to consider. First, if Marvel Studios wants to finish filming the season in its entirety before it premieres, then that leaves very little time for post production to finish the project before the end of December, making it possible that the series could potentially debut in early 2021.
Another thought to consider is there was an online rumor circulating that indicated Marvel had plans to split some Disney+ series into half-seasons which would allow filming to be completed; however neither Disney nor Marvel have addressed this matter.
The delay of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier also puts into question the release of other upcoming Marvel series planned for the streaming service like WandaVision and Loki. If there are tie-ins and crossovers into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in other films and series, then it would delay the release of other projects as well. For now, we can only speculate until Disney and Marvel sets a new release date.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is the first show made by Marvel Studios scheduled to release on Disney+ with Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan set to reprise their roles from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Daniel Brühl, Emily VanCamp, and Wyatt Russell are also starring.
