All eight episodes of the brand-new Original Series “The Full Monty” premiered exclusively on Disney+ internationally and on Hulu in the United States on June 14, 2023.
Taking place 25 years after the original British smash hit, the 8×60’ series follows the same band of brothers as they navigate the post-industrial city of Sheffield, and society’s crumbling healthcare, education, and employment sectors. The comedy-drama will uncover what happened to the gang after they put their kit back on, exploring their brighter, sillier and more desperate moments. It will also highlight how the fiercely funny world of these working-class heroes – still residing in Sheffield – has changed in the intervening decades.
The original movie’s ACADEMY AWARD®-winning screenwriter Simon Beaufoy returns, joined by co-writer Alice Nutter (“Accused”), with Uberto Pasolini (“Nowhere Special”) also coming back as executive producer.
The series sees the lead cast reprising their fan-favourite roles with Robert Carlyle (“Trainspotting”, “Once Upon A Time”) as Gaz, Mark Addy (“Game of Thrones”, “A Knight’s Tale”) as Dave, Lesley Sharp (“Before We Die”, “Scott and Bailey”) as Jean, Hugo Speer (“Britannia”, “Shadow and Bone”) as Guy, Paul Barber (“The Dumping Ground”, “Gloves Off”) as Horse, Steve Huison (“The Royle Family”, “The Navigators”) as Lomper, Wim Snape (“The Beaker Girls”, “Gentleman Jack”) as Nathan and Tom Wilkinson (“Batman Begins”, “Michael Clayton”) as Gerald.
The biggest question still remains if and when we might see “The Full Monty” return for season 2? Read on for everything we know about season 2!
Will There Be a Season 2 of “The Full Monty?”
Official Renewal Status: Pending / Not Yet Renewed
Our Renewal Prediction: Leaning Toward No
Disney hasn’t officially confirmed whether “The Full Monty” will be returning for season 2. The show’s stars Mark Addy and Steve Huison, who reprised their roles as Dave and Lomper respectively, recently opened up about the possibility of a season 2. In an interview with Digital Spy the two said they would be happy to make a second series.
When asked if there was scope to explore more social issues beyond the self-contained storyline of season 1, and if they would like to return, Game of Thrones star Addy said: “Yeah. Can’t see why not.”
“Absolutely. I’d be happy to do more,” Huison agreed.
Despite the cast’s enthusiasm for a second season, the show was created to be a limited series so a renewal is unlikely however possible. If the show is greenlit for a second season, we will update this article right away.
“The Full Monty” Season 2 Release Date
Since Disney hasn’t confirmed if “The Full Monty” will return for season 2, no official release date has been announced. However, we can certainly make an educated guess based on typical release patterns.
If “The Full Monty” is renewed for a second season, we expect it to arrive on Disney+/Hulu towards the end of 2024, if not 2025.
We’ll update this article with any official news once it’s announced.
