Disney is reportedly spending $100 million for the first season of The Mandalorian. That’s $12.5 million per episode.
As this is truly a staggering amount, for a tv show at the very least; we thought it would be interesting to break down the numbers a little further.
The Mandalorian Chapter 2 is approximately 27 minutes long once you’ve taken out the recap, credits etc. We’re looking at $12.5 million per episode which puts the show at $462,962 per minute. That’s more than $7,716 per second!
The series cost “around $100 million” to produce, Disney CEO Bob Iger said during the Vanity Fair Summit.
But it’s still less expensive than the Disney+ Marvel shows that are in development. “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” “WandaVision,” and “Hawkeye” each cost $25 million an episode, according to THR. Variety had previously reported that the shows would be six to eight episodes long, so each series could cost between $150 million and $200 million.
Disney is projecting a 2020 original programming budget “short of $1 billion,” according to THR.
