Onyx Collective’s “The Other Black Girl” series premiered on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ globally on September 13, 2023. The series has been well received by audiences and critics alike with a current score of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. The first season ended with a cliffhanger that left the door open for the show to continue leaving many fans wondering if the series will be renewed for Season 2.
During a recent interview with Variety, showrunners Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey were hopeful about the possibility of “The Other Black Girl” Season 2 and added that, with the ongoing strikes, “hopefully” a deal will be made that allows it to happen. You can read their comments below:
“We really hope to continue to explore the world and to see how far Nella is willing to go with her ‘fake’ persona in order to achieve her goals. She has a new set of goals, a new layer of code-switching, a further distance from her true self. Is her ambition still going to be worth it? When you pretend to be someone else for so long, does that false version of you become the truest one? And for there to be a Season 2, hopefully the studios will come up with a fair deal and everyone will be compensated for their hard work.“
Adapted from the best-selling novel by Zakiya Dalila Harris, the series follows Nella, an editorial assistant, who is tired of being the only Black girl at her company, so she’s excited when Hazel is hired. But as Hazel’s star begins to rise, Nella spirals and discovers something sinister is going on at the company.
The ten-episode series stars Sinclair Daniel, Ashleigh Murray, Brittany Adebumola, Hunter Parrish, Bellamy Young, Eric McCormack, and Garcelle Beauvais.
“The Other Black Girl” is executive produced by Rashida Jones, Adam Fishbach, Zakiya Dalila Harris, Jordan Reddout, Gus Hickey, Tara Duncan, and Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey. Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey also serve as co-showrunners. “The Other Black Girl” is produced by Onyx Collective.
All 10 episodes of the series are available to stream now on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ in many countries including the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.
