“The Right Stuff” Season Two Cancelled

According to Deadline, Disney has decided to not move forward on a second season of National Geographic‘s live-action drama series “The Right Stuff”. This is the first scripted series cancellation by Disney+.

“The Right Stuff” follow the incredible story of the early days of the U.S. space program, based on the iconic bestseller by Tom Wolfe. At the height of the Cold War, newly-formed NASA selects seven of the military’s best test pilots to become astronauts. Competing to be the first in space, these men achieve the extraordinary, inspiring the world to turn towards a new horizon of ambition and hope.

It’s possible that a second season might appear on another streaming service as Warner Bros. Television, the studio behind The Right Stuff, is shopping it to other outlets with WarnerMedia siblings TNT and HBO Max a likely contender.

The series was given a $13.7 million to move from Florida to California for a second season by the CFC program. This is a huge incentive for WBTV and parent WarnerMedia to try and keep The Right Stuff going for a second season.

The Right Stuff, which according to Deadline, is believed to have been a modest performer for Disney+ and did not break into Nielsen’s Top 10 streaming ratings. The series was important for Disney+ as it offered something new when coronavirus-related production shutdowns effected new originals coming to Disney+.
