“The Wonder Years” Canceled After Two Seasons

Disney’s ABC has canceled “The Wonder Years” following a two-season run, as reported by Deadline.

The show’s second season premiere was postponed to this past summer, a decision that is sometimes associated with subpar ratings from the previous season. Unfortunately, the second season did not manage to attract a larger audience, securing the lowest viewership and ratings among ABC series this summer. Additionally, it found itself at the bottom of the rankings for ABC’s 2022-23 season lineup.

Inspired by the beloved award-winning series of the same name, “The Wonder Years” is a coming-of-age story set in the late 1960s that takes a nostalgic look at a black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama, through the point of view of imaginative 12-year-old Dean. With the wisdom of his adult years, Dean’s hopeful and humorous recollections show how his family found their “wonder years” in a turbulent time.

Disney has yet to release the second season of “The Wonder Years” on Disney+ in several countries. Given Disney’s recent trend of writing off underperforming shows as part of cost-reduction strategies, there is a possibility that the second season might not be made available at all.

Earlier this year, the show became available on Disney+ in addition to its regular home on Hulu. However, given its recent cancellation, there’s a chance it might be removed. If you haven’t watched “The Wonder Years” but plan to, you might want to do it sooner rather than later.
