‘Tick, Tick, BOOM!’ Star Robin De Jesús Joins Hulu’s Limited Series ‘Immigrant’

Robin De Jesús (Tick, Tick, BOOM!) has been added to the cast of Hulu’s upcoming limited series “Immigrant (working title).” Robin De Jesús will have a recurring role in the series and join previously announced cast Kumail Nanjiani, Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus), Annaleigh Ashford, Andrew Rannells (Black Monday), Dan Stevens (Legion, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story Of Fire Saga) Quentin Plair (The Good Lord Bird), and Nicola Peltz (Transformers: Age of Extinction) in a guest role.

“Immigrant” follows the story of Banerjee (Kumail Nanjiani), the Indian-American entrepreneur who started the famed troop Chippendales. The show will detail the insane, darkly comedic, crime-ridden story behind the unique male revue that became a cultural phenomenon.

According to Deadline, De Jesús will portray Ray Colon, a proud Nuyorican from the Bronx who comes on the Chippendales scene as the resident handyman and self-proclaimed jack of all trades. Affable and eager-to-please, Ray reveres founder Somen “Steve” Banerjee (Kumail Nanjiani) and their growing friendship finds Ray in more than one compromising situation as the season progresses.

De Jesús is a three-time Tony-nominated actor who most recently starred in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tick, Tick, Boom!.  Other credits include The Boys in the Band, 11:55, and Camp.

Matt Shakman will direct and executive produce the series.  Shakman has previously worked on Marvel’s WandaVision and The Great.  He replaces originally announced Ramin Bahrani ahead of the series’ start of production.

The project hails from Pam & Tommy creator Robert Siegel.

Robert Siegel is the show’s writer and executive producer alongside Nanjiani, Dylan Sellers, Jenni Konner, Ramin Bahrani, Emily V. Gordon and Rajiv Joseph. Joseph will also write the show with Mehar Sethi.

Siegel and Konner serve as co-showrunners.  Jacqui Rivera is co-executive producer, Nora Silver is producer and Annie Wyman is co-producer.

20th Television serves as the studio on the series.

The series will also be coming to Disney+ Internationally including the U.K. and Canada, under the Star banner at a later date.
