‘Up Here’ Musical Series Disney+ Release Date Announced (UK/IRE)

Disney has announced that the new musical romantic comedy series “Up Here” will premiere on Disney+ in the United Kingdom and Ireland on Friday, March 24, 2023, the same day the series will arrive on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ in Canada.

A musical romantic comedy set in New York City in the waning days of 1999, following the extraordinary story of one ordinary couple, as they fall in love – and discover that the single greatest obstacle to finding happiness together might just be themselves – and the treacherous world of memories, obsessions, fears, and fantasies that live inside their heads.

The eight-episode series comes from Tony-winning playwright Steven Levenson (tick, tick… BOOM!), Danielle Sanchez-Witzel (The Carmichael Show, My Name Is Earl), Tony-winning Hamilton director Thomas Kail and Oscar, Emmy and Grammy-winning duo Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez (Frozen, WandaVision).

Mae Whitman (Good Girls) and Carlos Valdes (Gaslit) lead the all star cast.

According to Deadline, series regulars include Kate Finneran (The Gilded Age) as Joan, the unfailingly proper, appearance-fixated mother of Lindsay; John Hodgman (Blindspot) as Tom, Lindsay’s danger-obsessed father and chief coroner of Chittenden County, Va.; Andréa Burns (West Side Story) as Rosie, Miguel’s mother; Sophia Hammons (Under Wraps) as Celeste, Lindsay’s rule-following, risk averse best friend from seventh grade; and newcomer Emilia Suárez as Renee, the queen bee of Miguel’s high school.

Recurring characters are Ned (The Resident‘s George Hampe), Lindsay’s sweet, small town Vermont pediatric dentist boyfriend; Fiona (Women of the Movement‘s Julia McDermott), Miguel’s sharp and acerbic video game project manager girlfriend; Orson (Friday Night Lights‘ Scott Porter), the supremely self-confident and self-important private equity manager who destroyed Miguel’s life; Marta (The Falling World‘s Ayumi Patterson), Lindsay’s sophisticated and not entirely trustworthy New York City roommate; and Ted aka Mr. McGooch (tick, tick, BOOM‘s Brian Stokes Mitchell), a beloved author and illustrator, whose classic children’s books were a fixture of Lindsay’s youth.

Levenson will also serve as showrunner, while Anderson-Lopez and Lopez will write original songs for the series. Thomas Kail, who previously directed Broadway shows like “Hamilton” and “In the Heights,” will direct and executive produce under his Old 320 Sycamore Productions banner. Jennifer Todd of Old 320 Sycamore will also executive produce.

20th Television is the studio.
