The Super Mario Bros. Movie is one of the big new theatrical releases of spring 2023 and if you don’t plan on venturing out, when can you catch the new movie on streaming? More importantly, will it be on Disney+? Let’s find out.
Based on the world of Nintendo’s Mario games, the film invites audiences into a vibrant, thrilling new universe unlike any created before in an action-packed, exuberant cinematic comedy event.
While working underground to fix a water main, Brooklyn plumbers Mario (Chris Pratt; Jurassic World and The LEGO Movie franchises) and brother Luigi (Charlie Day; It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) are transported down a mysterious pipe and wander into a magical new world. But when the brothers are separated, Mario embarks on an epic quest to find Luigi.
With the assistance of a Mushroom Kingdom resident Toad (Keegan-Michael Key; The Lion King) and some training from the strong-willed ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom, Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy;The Queen’s Gambit), Mario taps into his own power.
Will “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” Be On Disney Plus?
The Super Mario Bros. Movie will not be available on Disney+ because Disney does not own or distribute the movie. Instead, the movie is a collaborative effort between illumination, Universal Pictures, and Nintendo, and is distributed by Universal.
For those eagerly anticipating the movie’s streaming release, it will likely hit Peacock in the United States in either June or July of 2023, with a subsequent release on Netflix between October and December of the same year. However, an exact streaming release date for the film has not been officially announced as of yet.
So, while The Super Mario Bros. Movie may seem like a natural fit for Disney+, its distribution rights lie elsewhere, and you’ll have to look to other platforms to catch the beloved characters in action.

Internationally, things can be a little different for Disney+ as we have seen some titles that aren’t produced or distributed by Disney arrive on their streaming service. Specifically, the UK has seen both Paddington movies added, which isn’t a Disney title.
However, just like the United States, it’s not expected that Disney will be striking any deals in other countries such as the UK, Canada, Australia etc with Illumination/Universal Pictures for The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

In the United States, expect to see The Super Mario Bros. Movie. on Peacock in June or July of 2023, with a subsequent release on Netflix between October and December.
In the UK, expect to see the movie on Sky, and possibly on Netflix in 2025.
