‘Willow’ Creator Gives Optimistic Update After Reports of Series Being Canceled

Earlier this week, it was reported that Lucasfilm’s Disney+ Original series “Willow” would not be returning for a second season.  The series debuted on the streamer last November and concluded its run in January 2023.

Show creator Jon Kasdan has now responded to those reports on Twitter and has given an optimistic update on the fantasy series.  Kasdan’s post says the decision was made to “release our main cast for other series opportunities that may arise for them in the coming year,” adding he feels “fairly confident that, if asked, neither I, nor the folks at Lucasfilm, would or have actually characterized their predicament as a full-on, final cancellation.”

You can see that tweet below:

“Willow” is the all-new sequel series to George Lucas’s 1988 fantasy adventure “Willow”. The Nelwyn sorcerer returns, years after rescuing the infant empress Elora Danan, to lead a group of misfit heroes on a harrowing rescue mission through a world beyond imagination.

“Willow” stars Warwick Davis, Ellie Bamber, Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman, Tony Revolori, Amar Chadha-Patel, Dempsey Bryk, and Joanne Whalley.

Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Jonathan Kasdan, Tommy Harper, Wendy Mericle, Roopesh Parekh, Ron Howard, and Samie Kim Falvey serve as executive producers. Writers are John Bickerstaff, Hannah Friedman, and Jonathan Kasdan. The producers are Stephen Woolfenden, Julia Cooperman, Hameed Shaukat, and Max Taylor.

All 8 episodes of “Willow” are available to stream now on Disney+.
